I'm breaking my own rules

This past weekend, I shared with my friend Liz some photography I’d done of an orchid that blooms in my living room. She was full of compliments (as a good girlfriend ought to be) and asked why I didn’t post the photos on my blog.

“Because it’s a food blog, and these are pictures of a flower,” I explained.

“Well, who decides what goes on your blog and what doesn’t?” she asked.

“I do,” I replied.

“Well, why are you making up silly rules about your own blog?!” She asked, exasperated.

It was a very good question from a very wise woman, if I do say so indeed. The thing is, I love so many things about house and home, and I get to visit some pretty neat places when I’m on the road for work and for pleasure… Palm Springs, New Orleans, and the Hamptons, to name a few. I’m also working very hard at being a decent photographer, so I’m starting to get into that characteristic habit of taking pictures of EVERYTHING. So starting very soon, I’ll be breaking my own silly rules and adding more regular posts about travel, home, and garden topics. I hope you won’t mind the occasional foray into a realm not directly related to food.

Later this week, you’ll see those photos of my orchid… it’s no ordinary orchid, but more on that later. And in the coming weeks, occasionally tucked among my best springtime recipes, you’ll find travel photos from Greece, London, Spain, and a few local spots. The photo at the top of this post is a little teaser shot, taken this past Saturday at sunset in Half Moon Bay.

I’ve even gone so far as to change my blog header to reflect my expanded areas of interest.  So you can rest assured there’s more to come, I promise!

    you are the decider!

I think most people that love food tend to appreciate travel, gardens, interior decorating, etc. No complaints here! Now if you get pregnant and turn your food blog into a weekly picture of your stomach that’s another story….

Good feedback Melanie! You are so funny. I have seen many a blog such as the one you describe!
