I meant to post a little something on Friday to wish you all a wonderful weekend, but here we are and it’s Sunday already. How is it that the best days of the week slip away so quickly? The weekend is gone and in all likelihood your attention has already shifted toward the to-do list you must attack first thing tomorrow morning.
But wait. Can we not go there yet? It is still Sunday, after all, and I’m stuck in this dreamy weekend-induced state of mind. The weather here in San Francisco was spectacular, which drew me outdoors for all sorts of fun. Yesterday I did a little gardening. My dahlias are just coming up out of the ground (a new post with updated photos is coming soon, I promise!) and I decided, on a whim, to plant the rest of the garden with vegetables: Tomatoes, hot peppers, squash, cucumber, and a pumpkin. I also started some sunflowers from seed in little four-inch pots, and tore out an old azalea that’s been good and dead for over a year. It felt good to get the yard cleaned up and to put some healthy veggies in the ground, which is still damp and sweet-smelling from the recent rains.
Last night I went to a dinner party at the home of my former classmate, Anirban, and his beautiful wife, Bonnie. It was a reunion of sorts with my study team from Wharton, and we had a grand ol’ time eating and laughing and dancing barefoot to Bollywood music in the living room. You’d think we just graduated from middle school, but no… it was a Masters program. You’ll have to take my word for it.
Today I had a book club gathering with my fabulous book club girls; We brunched on pastries and mimosas outdoors in a gorgeous sun-drenched (though characteristically breezy) San Francisco backyard. We chatted about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson, which is creepy and disturbing but utterly addicting. I came home and didn’t do much of anything: I read the paper (that would be the New York Times, of course), read my favorite magazine, The Sun, and then went for a walk. And that’s where I picked these lovely wildflowers: sweet pea and nasturtium that grow on a hillside near my home.
Did you have a wonderful weekend, too? I hope you’ll tell me all about it.

Ah, Bay Area micro-climates! We froze!
I gobbled all three Steig Larsson books in January while I was in Sydney – books seem to come out earlier there for some reason. You won’t be disappointed~

Those colors are too beautiful to be real!! Actually…I think this is the perfect color insipiration I need for a few outfits I’m getting made.
Well then I will be DYING to see those outfits!!
Oooh so lovely! Your weekend sounds so relaxing. Mine was a little stressful, busy with family in town. But you’ve inspired me to go out for a wildflower hike today, so thank you.
Miriam, that is a beautiful picture. The color combination is perfect! Our weekend was great. Andreea turned 2 on Sunday and we had a big birthday party at the park. She had a blast and we did too.
Oh, there’s nothing better than a birthday party in the park! When I was little, that’s what we did every year. Now it seems parents try to go all-out with these “destination parties.” I’m glad you’re sticking to the basics with grass and sunshine. Your little one is a lucky girl!
m- I will have lots of heirloom pumpkins up for adoption in about 2 weeks. Let me know if you’d like one/some. Also hard as I’ve tried, I never had much success with hot peppers, but then again, if they’re located where the sun shines and gives lots of heat it may work. They need hot weather a la Sacramento. Also cherry tomatoes grow abundantly here. Larger tomatoes need heat in this area they spend a lot of time arguing with the fog. Lastly(you’re probably out of garden space by now but pole beans do exceptionally well here and you can fairly easily buy the French haricot vert seeds. Have fun:)
Hmmm… I was thinking about pole beans! Maybe I’ll pull out that pepper (why waste space) and put them there instead. Do you mean you have baby pumpkin plants up for adoption, that you started in small pots? I will def take one!
I probably will have a least 10 available for adoption.
They have grown from seeds in those little starter plastic trays. I will let you know when they’re ready. All you need to do is transplant them. Also, good idea about the hot peppers. I think Ace has the haricot vert seeds but Kentucky Wonder and Blue Lake beans are great too.
My weekend was great. I picked a lot of potatoes from my garden and cookded them two hours later. Made some Puff pastry and from there made some puff pastry tarts with fresh cherries and rasberries I got from the Farmers market. Also made some bread. Joined Facebook….finally, but still have a lot of work to do to it. Played Racquetball which is my favorite way to get exercise and watched the final episode of Lost. I’m looking very forward to this weekend as it will be a four day weekend for me…:)
That sounds like a pretty full weekend, Guy! I love the elements of food and exercise and simple pleasures, like Lost. My upcoming weekend is an extra-long one, too. Going to see my folks on the Central Coast.
I’ve spent the past three days in Thailand, Kho Phagnan, doing yoga in the morning, sunbathing in the afternoon (with plenty of sunscreen of course!) and 2 hour massages in the evening. Paradise is nothing short of amazing.
Wow, Kate, I think your weekend takes the cake!
