I’m Alive!

This is just a short post to let ya’ll know that I’m still alive. I know I didn’t post anything on Friday for Friday finds, and I missed my self-imposed deadline (yesterday) for a post about my weekend. The thing is, there wasn’t much of a weekend. Let’s start with Friday. On Friday I was in bed with the symptoms of what would become strep throat. Oh yes. Have you had it before? Your whole body aches and you feel like you’re choking on hot rocks. I got myself to urgent care late on Sunday evening and the symptom-relieving effects of antibiotics started to kick in, at long last, yesterday.

The worst part is that this little bout of illness caused me to miss a very important date with a very special little person, who used to be inside this big red belly but is now a nine-week-old, living, breathing beautiful human being. Her name is Olivia and she is the daughter of some close friends of mine. She lives not too far away and I get to see her pretty often, and it’s usually the highlight of my week. (That’s her auntie Jill’s hand willing her to come out healthy and happy, which she did.)

And you know what else happened in the midst feeling miserable and missing my very important date with Olivia? I found out that someone I should never have trusted was accessing and reading my personal email account. Not just here and there or once in a while, but sometimes multiple times in a day over a period of three weeks. Weird. Creepy. Violating. All of the above. Really awful all the way around. And you know what else it is? Illegal. Remember that, next time you have even the slightest urge to peek at your boyfriend’s messages or a friend’s account. It’s just wrong in every way. The worst part is that I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that this person was doing this awful thing, but he denied it up and down and I just couldn’t fathom that a) it could even be possible or that b) he would actually do it. But it was possible. And he did. I happened to be at a holiday party (fully drugged up and pretending to feel better for a few hours) with a bunch of tech geeks on Saturday night when my suspicions got the better of me, and my geeky friends were simply delighted to inform me that you can open a nifty little report in Gmail that shows the log-in history for your account and… the IP addresses from which access has been made. And you know what you can do with an IP address? Trace it! These are things I did not know. But now I do, and the mystery is solved. A disappointing outcome to an investigation I never should have had to conduct, to be sure, but these are things you definitely want to know about a person, right?

So… there was that.

Anyway, I’m feeling better and very happy to be back in the land of the living, with one less lousy person in my life. In the middle of feeling crummy I had this undeniable urge to eat noodle kugel, a very comforting, calorie-laden Jewish dish consisting of noodles, eggs, sour cream, cottage cheese, cinnamon, sugar, and chopped dried apricots. IT EVEN HAS CRUSHED CORN FLAKES ON TOP.

So I got myself out of bed yesterday and whipped up a batch. And then I ate a double serving for dinner before going to bed at 7 pm.

Yes, that made me feel better. It sure did.

I will post about it later this week, when I’m fully back into the swing of things.

Feel better soon Miri – snuggle up with the cat and your noodle kugel (your alternative to chicken soup?) and take some time out. It’s called convalescence!

Sorry to hear about all the lousy stuff going on. Being sick is hard enough but the whole invasion of privacy is horrible. What’s wrong with people?! I’m a bit believer in karma- he’ll get what’s coming to him. Hope you feel better soon. PS Thanks for the tip on the gmail log-in history..didn’t know about that.

Thank you Trish! I agree that Karma takes care of just about everything (and everyone) in life. Hope your week is off to a good start!

I also am sorry to hear from that bad stuff that was going on. I am glad that that is sorted now!

I hope you do feel better real soon, my friend!

Kisses & hugs from Brussels to you!
